Cooking is for everyone

Cooking is for everyone

The theme of NWT Literacy Week 2018 is Everyone in the Kitchen.

Cooking together is a great opportunity to teach skills to young children, to add numeracy to tasks, and to spend time together as a family. We invite you to celebrate with us!

You can check out our new Everyone in the Kitchen recipe booklet on our website for ideas on how to include all your family members in each step of the preparation and cooking process. You can also watch social media for our short, fun, cooking videos Monday to Friday during Literacy Week, September 23-29.

If you are in Yellowknife, look for us at NWT Literacy Week events. On Tuesday, join Kerry Wheeler at the YK Pop-up Park from 10-11 am for a morning of music, and the NWT Literacy Council for storytelling from 4-5 pm. On Wednesday, we’re happy to partner with the Department of Education, Culture and Employment and Aurora College to host the Ministerial Literacy Awards and Adult Learners Lunch.

You can stop by the post office at lunch hour on Thursday for a free coffee and book. Friday, we’ll celebrate literacy for all ages. We’re hosting Lunch With a Bunch with the Yellowknife Senior’s Society at the Baker’s Centre. Then in the evening, join us at the Fieldhouse for a Family Literacy Fun Night. Many thanks to the Yellowknife Playgroup Association for lending us play equipment and volunteers for this last event.

Check with schools, libraries and community learning centres for events in other NWT communities. We’d love to know how you celebrate NWT Literacy Week. Share photos of the NWT Literacy Week events in your community on our Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter, or send us an email to nwtliteracy@nwtliteracy.ca. Happy NWT Literacy Week!
