Hi, my name is Uma, and I am delighted to share my experience with NWTLC.

Hi, my name is Uma, and I am delighted to share my experience with NWTLC. I joined the Literacy Council in 2015 as an Office Manager, and I am now transitioning to a new role on the Family Literacy team. My time with NWTLC has been incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful for the opportunity to take on this new challenge within the organization.

Throughout my time with NWTLC, I have had the privilege of working with and learning from numerous dedicated and talented individuals. I take pride in the work we have accomplished together, and I am eager to carry forward these valuable experiences as I step into my new role.

In my new role, I will have the opportunity to work more closely with families to share resources needed to support their children’s education. I am excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community through literacy. Education and literacy have always been my passion. Now I am thrilled to be taking on this new responsibility of coordinating and implementing literacy programs for families in the NWT.

I will be supporting all of the Family Literacy projects as well as administering funds. If you have completed our Family Literacy Training Institute and would like to run a program, please check out the application here. If you haven’t taken our training yet and are interested, watch for our application announcement in the fall in our E-news and on social media.

The Family Literacy team is very excited to take the Bison Bus Mobile Family Literacy Centre on the road this summer after a year in hibernation. If you are in a community with road access in the Dehcho, South Slave or North Slave regions, and would like us to visit your community event or family program, please send me an email at uma@nwtliteracy.ca to get on the schedule.

I am deeply grateful for your continued support and encouragement as I embark on this new journey. I eagerly look forward to collaborating with all of you in the future. I look forward to visiting more communities around the NWT and getting to know Family Literacy facilitators who are running so many great programs.
