February is Indigenous Languages Month.

-

February is Indigenous Languages Month. It’s a time to celebrate the NWT’s Indigenous languages and encourage people to learn about and use them.

In the NWT we are very fortunate – we live in a land rich in languages and cultures. We have 11 official languages – nine of those are Indigenous, the other two are French and English. For Indigenous languages to survive and thrive, it’s important to promote their use every day – at home, in the community and at work.

Take part in the Indigenous Languages Month activities in your community.

We have Indigenous language resources, including ones to help you celebrate Indigenous Languages Month.

In 2022 we are hosting an Indigenous Languages Month Bingo Contest.

February is Indigenous Languages Month in the NWT!  All month long we will be celebrating our 9 official Indigenous Languages with contests, giveaways, fun activities and more.  This year, the theme is ‘Let’s Go Fishing’.
